DollyHair.com amount and color guide

Postby DollyKim » Thu Aug 18, 2011 5:38 pm

~edited Jan 26th~ What DollyHair.com colors match Monster High dolls skin tones for the "Ice Princess" look I did. Getting samples is recommended as these are mostly suggestions, * colors are known to be exact matches. For amounts use the DH guide for Gene or buy 2 of the 38" hanks.

Ghoulia- nylon Raincloud
Draculara- nylon Fairy's Breath*
Lagoona- saran Heartless**
Frankie- saran Mint Ice*
Clawdeen- acetate Cocoa Brown, kanekalon Kaptivating Brown
Cleo- kanekalon Koppery Blonde
Tortalei- polypropylene Daring, possibly nylon Marmalade STRIPE- nylon pumpkin spice
Abbey- saran Violet Iris
Create vampire- nylon Amethyst
Create sea monster- (a shade lighter than Draculara) saran Cotton Candy Pink
Operetta-nylon Brambleberry, saran Foxglove Lavender to match the red in her tattoos saran Pillarbox Red

Nylon Snowflake white almost glows.
Saran white is not a pure white but slightly creamy.

Polypropylene Camouflage hank cut in six pieces. This piece was bought as a grab bag.

Depending on the final length that I want on the doll, I can root about 2-3 1/6th Obitsu heads using one My Little Pony sized hank. I just fold and cut the hair to the length I need.

I root with 5 strands per plug, and 15 strands per plug for the parts. That took about 4 years to get the technique right.

Thanks so much for the info guys. I don't reroot much but if i do this is a a good guide as to how much hair to get. THe rerooting process is a bit too slow for me but I always want to do it when i see other ppl's projects like yours and maywongs.....but my first reroot is still....unfinished lol and i hate that the face can't be done when the hair is still being rooted.

If you know a certain color matches something or other info share too.

Color not what I quite expected- Saran Ice White, it's not white but more of a very light warm creamy color so get some other kind if you need a true white.

Matching Monster High dolls skin tones
Lagoona- Nylon Daiquiri Ice
Frankie- Saran Mint Ice
Draculara- Nylon Fairy's breath

Saffy on Flickr has a color chart

If you poke around in her tutorials, she has some good color comparisons as well.

I have 2 wigs I'm working on for MSD sized dolls, so when I finish, I'll post pics. One is nylon Atomic Turquoise, the other is a custom blend of three colors but I'll have to double check on the colors.

I shot off a message to Dolly Hair and asked if they could make an official chart of Monster matching colors. If they do it might work best to close this thread and start again.
