Fond this amazing tutorial on how to make a doll sized umbrella or parasol.

http://www.usefuldiy.com/es/diy-wire-small-umbrella/

I myself haven't tried it yet but I did find a broken pen to use the stem for. If a pen is broken, handle with care for it may be leaking! I learned that the hard way XP

That is wicked cute. I wonder if it would work with lace.

I would think you could use a piece of 14-12 gauge wire (solid copper, not stranded) instead of the pen part and skip the whole leaky ink thing. You could get a foot of wire at the hardware store for pennies and it comes with a number of color jackets.

K2 has a good recommendation - but if you want to go with a pen part then just use an empty one! I have a whole box full of dead pens I'm trying to figure out how to recycle because I hate throwing them out and I don't think city recycling takes them. I imagine with some experimentation you could use many things other than yarn to create a cute little parasol.
