A Short History: Lachlan is the daughter of a fashion designer mother and a playboy father. While she believes that her father was married to her mother, in reality he probably wasn't as he's never bothered to marry any of the other women he's gotten pregnant. Still, Lachlan is probably the more forgiving of his children up to a point - she will never forgive him for having rejected Tai, her half-brother. When Tai was 14 and thrown out on the streets of Japan, Lachlan went there and brought him home, raising him for the the next few years until he was able to move back to his mother's home. Even though he is now 19 Lachlan is still very overprotective of Tai.

Lachlan is a very forthright person. She doesn't have a problem telling people the truth about things, and while she's been accused of being nosey it's more that she cares very deeply about anyone she considers a friend. She doesn't give friendship halfway - to her it is a commitment as strong as that of blood relations.

Currently she seems to be leaning towards a career in fashion, even though she didn't think she wanted to follow in her mother's footsteps. Part of what has pushed her in that direction is the fact that her boyfriend, Devon, does modeling for some of the most hideous clothing she has ever seen and she's trying to get him to take on a better class of job.

Since her father is nowhere to be found and she has no other relatives, Lachlan (well, really her mother) is now her guardian and Kyleigh has come to live with her siblings. Whether through loneliness or reasons unknown, Kyleigh has attracted Rosalynd to her side. Rosalynd is considered to be an "imaginary friend" by pretty much everyone, but since both Iago and Prospero can see her she may be more than just that.

Nariya was summoned onto the earth by Sohail after he got tired of waiting for a proper mate to be supplied to him. Because he has bound her to himself she has no choice with regards to obeying his commands, no matter what they are. Should she refuse to comply the elemental laws that govern the power of summoning would turn on her and she would suffer anything from severe physical pain for a period of days, a diminishing of her power, or ultimately extinguishing of her existance. Fortunately Nariya adores Sohail and has never once wanted to disobey him. For his part Sohail was rather surprised the entire summoning thing worked and he would never put Nariya's existance in jeapardy by asking anything of her that she would not wish to do. Fortunately for them both Fire Efreet are born horny so Sohail is finally "getting some".

Sherris knew she preferred girls from early on, and when she was caught by her mother kissing another girl at age 13 the shit hit the fan. Her mother, a member of a conservative religion, threatened her daughter with all the flames of hell just before throwing her out onto the street with little more than the clothes on her back. Sherris assumes her mother burned all the rest of her belongings as she has never once returned home or spoken to her maternal parent. As far as her father goes, Sherris never met him as he either died early in her childhood or ran off, her mother never clarified the situation with her.

Being thrown out never stopped Sherris from suceeding in what she wanted. Her girlfriend's mother took her in and with their help she finished high school. Afterwards she supported herself doing stripping - something she didn't really enjoy, but it brought in enough money to live on and to pay for dance and vocal lessons. Eventually her hard work was rewarded with a place in a well known local Burlesque theatre group where she soon became one of the headlining acts.

Genet had an iffy childhood. Her father ran out on the family when she was very young, and her mother Veronica, a self-centered woman, ignored her. When her mother remarried to James Martin, however, Genet did get not only a new half-brother, but a loving father as well. Unfortunately James died only 10 years later, leaving Genet and Nicholas to the mercies of an abusive older brother and a negligent mother. As soon as she was able Genet escaped to join the police force - her goal being to establish herself enough so that she could gain custody of her little brother. Unfortunately, she was too late. Before she could save Nicholas their brother Daniel told her the boy was gone - leading her to believe he was dead. Around that same time she was "promoted" to the position of detective and placed in the homicide department. The promotion was a token - they needed women for political reasons and she was all they had to give the job too. Knowing she was thought to be useless, and despondent over the loss of her brother, Genet threw herself into her work to prove herself a real homicide detective. Annoyed at how well she was doing, they assigned her to the impossible task of being on the "Angel Killer" taskforce. The Angel Killer was a serial killer who was murdering and mutilating blond young men, leaving their bodies displayed near churches and cemetaries in "angelic" poses. Genet, by chance, finds and ends the Angel Killer's rampage by killing him, but she can't cope with having taken a life. Leaving the police force she turns her talents to being a private detective and is often helped by her overenthusiastic side-kick Sherris.

A Short History: A few weeks before Christmas Tai found the naked and freezing wolfman lying outside the back door of the Haunt. Everyone (except Sohail) rallied to bring him in and they found that he has no memory of his past and cannot even speak, although he does understand speech. It is Tai who gave him the name of Naoki and took charge of caring for him. Recently Naoki's memories finally resurfaced, ending the pain he was in from the flashbacks. It seems that his dead Queen has been watching him, and she gave him the choice of keeping his memories or losing them again - permanently. After sharing his true past with Tai, Naoki has come to realize he cannot shut it out, and has chosen to keep the memories, but still start up a new life as Naoki.

A Short History: Tai left home early in part because of his father's violent disapproval of his being gay, but also because his mother kept trying to get him to follow a proper Japanese life path: college, job, marriage, family. She doesn't have a problem with him being gay, she just feels he should do his "duty as a man" and have a family anyway. Stifled, Tai escaped and moved to the states, hoping to find Lachlan, but when he couldn't find her he rented a room. When the house started to fill up with other tenants - who were all adorable little girls - Tai fled. Fortunately he had, by then, discovered Lachlan's whereabouts and had himself mailed to her doorstep. Since there are more men than women here (not counting the 1/6 dolls) he is relatively content, but Tai does long for someone he can share his life with. Unlike Lachlan, Tai is fully aware of the fact that their father never marries any of the women he sleeps with and probably has more illegitimate children running around, this just gives him another reason to hate his father.

Since the arrival of Naoki in the household Tai has become more and more in love with the anesiac wolfman. Despite popular belief, however, he has never made any attempt to molest or take advantage of Naoki's adoration. When Naoki finally regained his memories Tai was afraid it meant losing his friend, but his fears were in vain. Naoki loves Tai very much and has chosen to stay with him.

He's begun to pretty much take over the household, ruling over the Jenny pack who aren't in the least afraid of him - they indulge him because they enjoy it.

A Short History: Propero came out of nowhere to show up at the Haunt looking for a lost friend. This friend turned out to be Naoki, who was apparently a warrior of some distinction in another realm. In that realm Prospero's life was saved by Naoki/Gar when his fox family were attacked, killed and eaten by members of the Ursid race. Gar raised the little fox even though most Lucrid consider fox to be of the lower order of animals (i.e. they still retain more of an animal appearance and size). Prospero will do anything for Gar and for now is in great distress that his friend cannot remember him.

A Short History: Not really a full-fledged member of The Haunt, Shashashra is the Queen of the Lucrid race and features prominantly in flashbacks that involve Naoki's past. We now know that she is the 300th in an unbroken line from the first Queen of the Lucrid. In an attempted overthrow, one of her sisters, Rashashen tried to kill her, but was stopped by Garsiggdal. Shashashra showed questionable mercy by exiling Rashashen, an act which resulted in the downfall of her throne. Shashashra is killed by Ursid soldiers in an ambush set at the Black Waters where she and Gar were trying to flee an Ursid invasion.


Species Compendium

Lucrid
Naoki's native species who live either in another realm that connects to ours via a type of gateway known as the Black Water. Essentially the Lucrid started out as wolves and evolved to a human-hybrid type species. Whether this was purely evolution or if there was magic or science involved in the process is rather shrouded in mystery, but one can look to the slow evolution of the Fox from standard speechless beasts to the upright walking creatures they now are as a possible clue.

Lucrid society is based on the concepts of the Pack and the Clan. The Pack represents the immediate family and looks to the dominant female as it's head. The Clan is built up of related Packs and a dominant female chosen from the Pack leaders is it's head. The Lucrid Queen rules over all the Clans and is essentially the ultimate Dominant Female. She does not have any Pack or Clan affiliation, though she is expected to chose her mates from one of the Royal Clan Packs - families that once belonged to other Clans but have been elevated to this level by having one of their number mate with a Queen. Any royal offspring that are not deemed suitable to fight for rule, or who are male, are given to their male parent's Pack to be raised. In this way bonds between the Queen and the Royal Clan are strengthened as are those between the Royal Packs and the Clans to which they previously belong (who do get benefit from the associations).


Ursid
From the same realm as the Lucrid, the Ursid are similar in that they are a human-bear hybrid creature. Not as sophisticated as the Lucrid they are, nevertheless, formidable as a force since they enjoy few things more than fighting and destroying. Unlike the Lucrid, who will only hunt the lower animals of the realm for meat, the Ursid will hunt and eat any of the other creatures of the realm - including others of their own kind. Naoki saves Prospero from becoming an Ursid's dinner when the rest of the little fox's family have already been killed and partially devoured.

Ursid hate Lucrid...well, ok, they hate all the other higher animals but they really hate the Lucrid for kicking their butts several times when the Ursid have attempted to extend their land control into Lucrid territory. Ursid have absolutely no problem with lying to get what they want and no sense of loyalty. Their societal structure is not as rigid as the Lucrid, which makes their occassional battle successes somewhat miraculous. It is believed they are ruled over by a dominant male who has killed the previous dominant male.


Felid
Human-feline hybrid, the Felid are pretty much at the bottom of the higher animal hierarchy. They can't manage to organize themselves into any sort of defensive or offensive force and infight all the time. Nominally they are a subject nation to the Lucrid, who stomped them quite effectively in a war that lasted only 3 days.


Fox
Somewhere halfway between lower animals and higher animals, the fox just want to survive in a place where territory ownership is the be-all, end-all of everyone else's existance. Ursid eat them, Felid enslave them and for the most part Lucrid ignore them.
