To wipe factory faceups on vinyl or resin or anything, use tea tree oil! (You can purchase this in the vitamin aisle of your local pharmacy)

It works like a charm, has been safe for me, used on vinyl, resin and plastic---it won't melt them, and doesn't have foul fumes! (Just sort of medicinal scented)

Get about 3-4 q-tips ready, take one, dip it in the tea tree oil and rub on the eyes/brows/lips---whatever you want to remove.
It will take the highlights off first and then get a clean qtip, dip again in the tea tree oil and rub. After about 3-5 minutes, it will all come entirely off, depending on the doll. Some will come off in 30 seconds, others take a bit more elbow grease.

But guaranteed, the tea tree oil will remove the faceup better/faster than alcohol, is safer to use and smells nicer, too. ^^
I've done this method with literally hundreds of dolls and it never fails. ^^

After you get the faceup off, rinse with water or soap and water, and the head is all set to paint! ^^

Good luck!!!! ^^

Thanks for all the advice everyone. I just got another doll to repaint at the flea market. (May actually keep this one around after I repaint for a new body) And I tried to remove the eyes from that barbie....Totally stained the head. I'll be sure to look for Tea tree oil.

Didn't have any type of sealant at hand. I might be able to get it off with tea tree oil so hopefully. I'm not too worried because the new head I got I really like so I'm hoping she turns out better.

I'd still recommend a sealant though, it's used by people who do repaints and faceups for lots and lots of very good reasons ^^

I'll look into finding one. I was thinking of doing a bulk head order from Jspot of Obitsu heads o many kind and getting MSC and brushes and such.

Not sure where you live but, Wal-mart has the Barbie swapping heads on clearance for like $1.50.
I'm mostly on Tumblr now.

I think its a great first try.
Its hard when you first start out but you'll get the hang of it, just keep looking at tutorials and practising you will get better :3

My favourite tutorial/ face up artist its a little bit different from painting a barbie doll but requires just as much skill and effort
