I thought I'd post pictures of my unfinished proof of concept dolls that are a big part of my journey in doll making.

Jointed dolls 2007
Judy Skeel let me use her Wishing Fairy doll to teach a joint class to our doll club. I altered this pattern to have tab joints at the shoulder, bead joints at the elbow, pipe cleaners in the fingers, internal button joints at the hips and thread joints at the knees. Doll is about 19" tall. I finally realized these dolls will never have heads; now that I have pictures of them, I'm going to give them to another doll maker to finish as they wish.

Nix 2009
Nix is the first doll I made completely from my own pattern. I took Judy Ward's Doll Design class to learn how. She has button jointed hips and shoulders and wired fingers. She has doe suede skin, smooth side out and she's about 60cm tall.
I have no personal need to finish her (Basically she needs a face and to have her head attached), but my eldest daughter wants her, so I said I would.

Bastion 2009
He is very much the type of doll I want to be making. His skin is doe suede, fuzzy side out, so he has a lovely texture.
Bastion is the next iteration of Nix's pattern. I will eventually finish him for my youngest daughter - she's tired of being poked when she plays with him by the pins that keep his head on
I made the pattern pieces a little wider and I added button tab joints at his elbows and knees.

My current goal is to make a doll to share clothes with my CP resin dolls, so I want to alter the torso to leg ratio.
Aesthetically, he needs narrower ankles and a curved instep. I need to figure out how to put a face on this slightly napped fabric. I'm thinking about trying to inset eyes as that is my new favorite thing for dolls. I'll also joint his ankles and wrists. Eventually I want to ball joint all his joints. So those are the changes I want to make on the next version of this doll.

I love Nix and Bastien the best. I have made two button jointed dolls but nothing as exquisite as yours.

Nix and Bastien are wonderful! They have so much presence. I've not seen any other dolls quite like them.

Eseme Thanks! No one needs another hobby, they just sprout up like weeds

skookum hime Poppets are so sweet, they look super cuddly. I'd love to see yours. C'mon - I already showed you mine ;)

richila Thank you :D I'd love to see your dolls too. It would be great if this part of the forum was hopping with doll makers. We can encourage each other.

Aeilia*Blush* Thanks! I'm hoping to end up with a cuddly, elegant doll. Resin dolls already have the elegant down, but not so much the cuddly (at least not for me).
