Small drawer and sofa

Postby Glecs » Wed Nov 13, 2013 4:16 pm

I've been stuff with work lately and Fein was a really good companion. Since he doesn't have any furniture for himself, I decided to make something for him as a reward. I've seen some furnitures made with foam board and thought it is a good idea to get creative with them.

It is my first time making these, so I'm still having some problem with the scaling and also cutting technique on the foam board.

Yay, a stack of drawers!

Image
>:V No, Fein! I know you're obsessed with sharp and dangerous things but you can't have this.

"Fine, I'll look at the WIP drawers then."

Paper clips are so useful in many ways.

And here's the small drawer!

It was too big so I had to take it to the kitchen. This is the base of the sofa.
Basically, I'm kind of improvising a little here and there, that's why it's kinda simple.

I've added support so Fein can sit without breaking the thing in half, lol. I'll go shop for fabric this weekend to make the cushions and pillows.

Lovely! I'm missing a few steps though! How did you decorate the drawer?

Thank you fairydustdreams and Evelein! ^^

Oh, for the drawers, I bought a piece of brown card paper and glued them onto the drawer. It is also good to conceal the foam sides :D Also, I did the patterns and wooden texture with coloured pencils.

I love your idea of using paperclips as drawer sliders. The end result looks good :)

Thank you everyone!
It is because I have a box full of paper clips, I always try to find ways to use them all, haha.

Here is the progress until the end of Operation Sofa. I don't know how to sew well, so umm, you might not approve of my way of doing it xD

Let's utilize it.

I used a big piece of cloth I bought from the local charity shop.

Colourful sponges. I went to Asda today, and I bought 4 packs of kitchen sponges and a pack of big car sponges, the cashier looked a bit confused. I don't need all the small sponges, but because they come with the big ones without the green part, I bought them xD Well, at least I don't have to worry about the kitchen running out of sponges.

And Fein now gets his own corner in the room :D It's half metre away from the heater though.

Really cool job. How did you get the paperclips for the drawer supports to stick straight out. Are they just glued that way with something strong enough to hold them like that, or did you stick part of them into the foam board. It looks like the former, but I'm pretty sure any glue I have would be a floppy mess.

Hello WhiteDove :D Thank you!
I use hot glue to glue one side of the paperclip and then stick it onto the side of the drawer. I apply enough glue to "cushion" so that it holds. Hope that helps!

Thanks! I'm thinking of trying to make modular cubes like the ones in my room, only in 1/6 scale. :)
