I could tell you all sorts of things but we don't get in to that on this board. Just know many of the horror stories you hear are probably true. And standing on the corner with a sign is actually a better job.
I'd suggest making up doll stuff, especially for 18" American girl size, or some other craft and selling it on Etsy. Lord knows I spend enough money there.
