Greg plays a solo (updated photo)

Postby Geektopian » Thu Jan 06, 2011 1:45 pm

Greg's Fender Jazz Bass showed up today, so I did a quick photo shoot of him with it.

He was feeling kind of down after hearing the news that one of his favorite bass players, Mick Karn, had passed away on Tuesday, so he decided to practice some of Mick's solo pieces.

A big thanks to Iwa for pointing me to the link of a seller who had these in stock and thanks to my nephew for the Amazon gift card I used to buy it. :D I still need to adjust the neck and shorten the strap a bit but it looks pretty good for now.

As requested, here's a closer photo of Greg himself:

That color looks great with him. Can I request Liquid Liquid's 'Cavern'?

I think it looks great! How are you going to adjust the neck?! Sounds hard.

Displaying my vast store of ignorance re: guitars, here. What needs changed? And how would you do it? It's already a gorgeous piece (Greg looks just right holding it).

Thanks y'all, glad you liked it!

The package includes instructions on how to adjust the neck. Much like with a real guitar, lowering the "action" flatens the the bow in the neck and brings the strings closer to the fingerboard. The shoulder strap can be adjusted much like a belt so that you wear the instrument higher or lower on your body. I just need to tighten it a bit to take the slack out of it.

I tried to pose his right hand and index finger over the front pickup, which gives a "tighter", "sharper" sound when you pick there. The set also includeds a short patch cord, a wireless transmitter (which is on the back of the strap, out of sight in this shot), a stand and a few picks. I rarely, if ever, played with picks, so I decided to show Greg finger picking. I had a little trouble getting his left hand just right but it looks like he's playing a D-A perfect fourth double stop.
