Clear Obitsu Question

I was wondering if there is any way to add some color to the clear Obitsus? Can they be dyed or are there any transparent color paints that would work? Any knowledge would be appreciated.

I remember seeing one who had some parts painted on the inside with acrylic paint and it looked neat. Thinking they will come apart like a regular Obistu you can stick a small paint brush inside and paint.

I don't think that would quite work if the paint is opaque. I want to know if there are any paints that work like a semitransparent gloss. I was hoping to achieve an effect similar to the legs on these:

You can get clear acrylics from tamiya. The available colors are Clear Red, Clear Yellow, Clear Blue, Clear Green. You can mix the ones you are mixing. I will have to say these dry quite a bit faster than normal artist colors and are alcohol based acrylics rather than water based. I would recommend getting the thinner from Tamiya as well though to be honest I only used these in the beginning of my doll interests a few months ago. They will go through MSC as they are alcohol based and stain your vinyl if you're not careful. I prefer soft body Liquitex now for opaque painting.

EDIT: I believe those clear legs and wings are probably airbrushed with hobby color similar to the Tamiya paints. There is also a Mr.Color brand that comes in either lacquer or acrylics. The Mr.Color is a lot harder to find and more expensive. If you don't own an airbrush it will be really hard to get a smooth transition for clear colors since each dab of paint will darken the previous layer. With the fast dry time, you would be hard pressed to paint wet on wet as well so be prepared to get hard edges.

EDIT2: You can also get a similar effect using Pastels. However the effect usually won't be as transparent or as vibrant since you can't layer that much and preserve the transparency.

Ah....I know all this from being obsessed with garage kits hahahah...lotsa clear parts there.

Are garage kits similar to urban vinyl?

nope. Similar but garage kits are unpainted resin or vinyl statuettes. Often they come in several pieces that the hobbyist sands, assembles with glue and pins , then paints. Some hobbyist enjoy modding the design to their preference. At first most garage kit hobbyists were male, but these days a lot of girls are into it too. Volks started out in scale kits and garge kits, and moved into BJDs to try to garner more female interest. BJDs could be seen as the female version of the garage kit. I do agree that the hobbies are quite similar but these days the mobility and customizability of BJDs interest me a lot more.

Ah, as for the garage kit history, they are named as such since they were first produced in the garage's of fans who wanted to make reproducible statuettes for other fans....yeah...i'm a bit dorky.
