kenaiqueen's sewing skillz

They're too sexy for their clothing - but they have to wear them anyway! Did you buy it? Did you make it? Who cares - let'm strut their stuff here!

I had a schoolgirl uniform I bought off ebay and found that it fit SmartDoll, so I was using it for Kanata, but I never really loved the skirt. It was just too...floofy for me I guess. Here is how it looked until today.

I tore the skirt apart and dropped the lace. Then I took out the box pleats and did a simple pleat that I ironed in throughout and sewed it in at the top. I got lazy and eyeballed it so it's not all that even and there's an annoying bubble on the back that I couldn't get rid of but you can't see it at least. In any case, I like it a whole lot better and I think Penny does too.

Thanks! Had to do it by hand because I'm still too chicken to fire up the new sewing machine.

LOL! Thanks. It helps that my mom was a seamstress. After having 9 kids, she took in sewing to help earn some extra money now and then. I was always watching and started sewing my own doll clothes for my Barbie when I was probably 12. Also, do they still offer home ec in schools? We had actual sewing classes for half the year, and cooking after that in my teens. (The teacher insisted fried eggs had to have the gooky yolks...I refused to eat that!)

Home Ec. is an optional course in most high schools (at least in my area), but it's not required. Which, frankly, is silly. EVERYONE should know the basics of how to cook and sew, if for no other reason than basic survival. I picked up sewing as a hobby a few years ago, and don't do it nearly enough to have become good at it. I have a sewing machine, but quite frankly I'm still afraid of it. OwO; Which means I'm relegated to hand sewing . . . Which is a problem since my hands down always work. :'D I picked a heck of a set of hobbies for someone whose hands don't work well, eh?

Guys, find an old machine that works. I learned to sew on a treadle, and then the next one I used for any length of time was on of the first electrics, that still looked like a treadle.

I know. Probably too hard to find. But those old babies never let you down, and are easy to use.
I am Tam. Tam I am. I like green eggs, but I don't like ham. :D

I tried linking one of my adopted click pets here, but the board wouldn't let me. :/

I actually have my great grandmother's old treadle machine! Sadly, getting my hands on the things I'd need to be able to use it is another story. Right now, it's for a cloth over it being used as a place for knick knacks and a hiding spot for cats.
